Being Home Based Doesn’t Have to Mean Quiet

Do you Tweet? Yesterday one of the top trending topics was #NowPlaying. If you aren't familiar with Twitter, it is really a micro blog – you share your thoughts with followers in 140 characters or less. Yep – you have to be brief.
More on that another time – actually Mashable is the king of social media information and if you want to get started – check out the Twitter Guidebook.
Okay – back to the fact that it doesn't have to be quiet in your home based business. The Twitter trend topic of #now playing had people tweeting about what music they were listening to right that minute. The range of music was as wide as the ocean and it was interesting to scan through the messages to see the music choices and then look at the profile of the person sharing.
I must admit – it is awfully quiet here in my home based business. Back in the day when I worked in the corporate offices of Pearle Vision it was never quiet. Even if I shut my door I could hear conversations through the wall, the copier machine whirling and people were forever knocking on my door with questions or ideas. I longed for quiet.
And now that I'm officing out of the house – quiet is all I get, between phone calls. So I just discovered Last.FM. Do you know about it? You can type in the name of a musical artist and it will create a custom radio station with similar artists. I love it. I enjoy classic rock and pop but those songs tend to take my focus away from work. So I turn to Last.FM and listen to the music from the classic songbook: Bing Crosby, Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney. It is great background without interfering in my ability to write for my customers.
I don't have to change CDs or listen to commercials or get caught up in the debate of talk radio. And it isn't so quiet.
Check it out.
So what do you do to add a little sound to your home office environment?
