Dare We Talk About Money?

This is an uncomfortable topic. As a home based business owner we do everything for our business and as such some times something falls through the cracks.

For me it is financial planning.

So just in case the same is true for you – I did a little research and found a few resources that you might find of interest. The first one is the scariest of all – a calculator that gauges your financial health.

CNN Money offers this tool to determine how healthy your finances are.

Once you know the health of your finances you can begin thinking about the future. Money Magazine led me to ESPlanning and their tool that helps you plan for the future. You enter your current expenses, determine when you want to retire, how long you will be in your home and some basic assumptions. It is a little daunting, but if you are interested – it is worth the time.

So once you know your health and the outcome for your retirement – you might want to check out Money Magazine's annual 100 best money moves you can make to help you achieve your goals.

Best of luck.

I don't know about you but I need to quickly get back to generating income!

    Hi Deborah,
It’s interesting how many small business people give little thought to the amount of money they are actually making. This may have largely to do with the passion they have for their business. For them, it’s not just about the money. I think, however, that entrepreneurs of all sizes owe it to themselves to figure out how to maximize what they earn because so often, especially in our fragile economy, cash flow is key to the survival of small business. Once we’ve taken time to create a business, it’s best to insure it’s sustainable.

Shawn, thanks for the visit and the comment. I know you are right, but if money isn’t the service we provide – it is so hard to focus on that aspect. Is it out of fear? Sometimes. But you are right. I once heard a business owner brag about the 12,000 they had in the bank. And then someone said – have you paid your bills yet this month? No. ahhhhh.
