How To Survive A Negative Work Environment

When just the thought of going to work causes you to think twice already just because of all the negativity going around in there, how do you manage to field off the extra stress?

Here are a few things you can do:

Don't be part of the negativity

Don't participate in the negativity even though everyone around you is stressed out. It may be tough to concentrate on your work when people around you are surly. You may want to fight fire with fire. But by doing so, you only become part of the problem. Rather than reacting, take some time and evaluate the situation. Look for a better way to deal with the negative attitude around you.

Get a break

Make sure you allot some time during the work day so you can get a break from all that's happening around you. Physically get out of the office for a while. Three to five minutes here and there will really be a big difference.

Keep out of office politics

The best thing to do is stay focused on your work. If there are events you have to be in and the politics are part of the deal stay as professional as possible. Avoid choosing sides. Remember the thing that needs to get done is your job.

Maybe it's time to move on

When the office politics become the significant portion of an office day, it may be time to consider other options. Look at another department if you want to stay in the same company. Or if necessary, expand your horizons beyond the company walls.

And maybe in the process of all that? Plan your home-based business! In no time, you'll be resigning to become your own boss.
