One of the best things about working from home is the flexibility to work when we need to. People say to me "I can work in my pajamas." Yes, in fact, I'm writing this while in my pjs this morning. I got my daughter on the bus at 6:45 am and sat right down to work.

I haven't had breakfast.
I haven't showered (TMI, I know)
I haven't exercised.

Pretty soon, my stomach will growl, I'll look at the clock and realize that it is so late I have to decide between a healthy breakfast or getting showered and dressed for my first customer meeting. Thank goodness for Pop Tarts.

My meeting will run straight through lunch so I'll do a quick drive through. I know they sell salads, but have you tried to drive and eat a salad? I have and it isn't pretty. I will drive right past my fitness center on my way to another meeting from which I will pick up my daughter for the orthodonist appointment. Rush home for homework, laundry and to start supper (Hamburger Helper again?) while checking email and starting on my next customer project.

I could exercise during the commercials but that's when I'm finishing the laundry, making lunches and tucking my daughter in bed. And besides, who has time to watch television. I fall exhausted into bed swearing that tomorrow I will make it to the gym and will take the time to fix Eggbeaters instead of a Toaster Pastry.

We are so organized, us home based business owners. We juggle more balls than a circus act and yet why is it we neglect to put ourself on the long list of things to do?

National Women's Health Week is coming soon: May 9-15. I found this resource that lists some great articles and events for being and living a healthier life.

The Mayo Clinic staff offer their advice for getting your life back on track in this article on work life balance

Of course, it could just be as simple as putting your name on the to do list. We are creatures of habit. If it is on the to do list or on our calendar; we do it!

So today let's focus on putting ourselves first. I hear the WII Fit calling my name. What will you do?
